straightening frizzy, thick hair is great because it looks GOOD. buuut, its not the best for the health of your hair....if hair is already dry and frizzy, straightening it (which is done with heat) will just dry the hair out even more, and suck out annyyy kind of moisture that could potentially prevent frizziness... i would recommend using a leave-in-conditioner (to moisturize the hair)...and not applying any products with alcohol in them (MOST hairsprays and hairgels have TONS of alcohol in them and dry your hair out) try to add a smoothing treatment in the shower while you shampoo, this should sleeken out your hair.
also, there are many shampoo and conditioning options out there that are specifially made to target dry frizzy hair.. (the bottles should read somewhere along the lines of "sleek and straight" or whateverr)
i would try to use these products, and attempt to leave my hair as natural as possible... however, if straightening is a must, try to limit it to once or twice a month.
hope this helped. =D
